Will Oldham has flirted with the mainstream for the past few years, ever since turning the work he had done under the guise of Palace Music into the Nashville-scented success that was his Sings Greatest Palace Music (2004) collection.
His output is so prolific - at least two new releases every year - which means you never know exactly which way the singer-songwriter will turn.
But with Beware he has seemingly picked the best elements of everything he has done over the past 15 years, and rolled it all into one wonderful package. It's like another greatest hits compilation - except the songs are new.
It is by far his most generally accessible release - and (for diehard fans) that's not a bad thing either.
