Who started it? Born in Los Angeles, Geren Lockhart moved to New York at the age of five. In her teens and 20s, she travelled between the east and west coasts, studying at Parsons School of Design in New York and the Otis College of Art and Design in Los Angeles. She then settled in New York and worked in advertising while dabbling in fashion. After 12 years, she took the plunge and launched a label based on luxury loungewear. It is available at stores such as Harvey Nichols. Lockhart has also worked with boutiques such as Urban Outfitters in the United States. Why we love it: Geren Ford is about wearable luxury. The clothes are hip and modern and embody a casual, effortless style. Lockhart likes to use easy fabrics such as silk or jersey on shapes such as a kimono dress and incorporates details such as ruffles. 'It's chic and sexy without being overt. If there's a ruffle, it's feminine but not girly,' she has said. For spring, expect organic prints and bright colours contrasted with earth tones. Metal hardware appears in the form of rivets and other embellishments. What would we pick? The Rivet shift dress (right, HK$3,000) embodies this season's block-colour trend; and the short-sleeve jacket (above, HK$2,800) with ruffle details. Where can you get it? Geren Ford is available at Indigo, 32A Staunton Street, Central, tel: 2147 3000.
