Pan-democrats again seek answers on Macau entry ban

Pan-democrats are still demanding a full explanation for the series of refused entries into Macau, listing a number of unanswered questions. In a public forum organised by Power for Democracy yesterday, Civic Party member Joseph Cheng Yu-shek said the chief executives of Hong Kong and Macau, as well as the State Council's Hong Kong and Macau Affairs Office, should explain the entry bans to the Hong Kong public. Last week, 13 lawmakers were allowed entry, seven of whom had been previously denied.

Details on delegates' role urged

Former chief secretary Anson Chan Fang On-sang has urged the government to clarify remarks suggesting Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference delegates would participate more in Hong Kong's affairs. Wen Wei Po reported this month that Li Guikang, a deputy director of the central government's liaison office, told delegates that an agreement had been reached on strengthening the role of delegates.

Activists on June 4 mission

Veteran democracy activist Szeto Wah and Richard Tsoi yiu-cheong, also of the Hong Kong Alliance in Support of Patriotic Democratic Movements in China, will visit North America next month to encourage more events to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the June 4, 1989 crackdown.
