England's Sweet Chariot will be at full speed this weekend - much to the delight of coach Ben Ryan who has shaped his campaign to win the IRB Sevens crown for the first time around pace and power.
'We have four out-and-out fast men, a very quick, mobile side,' Ryan said. 'This is the strongest side I've ever brought to Hong Kong and we will give everything we've got. And what we've got should be enough.'
Winger Tom Varndell will lead the pace battery. Out of favour in Martin Johnson's 15s set-up, Varndell will be the fastest player on show this weekend, according to Ryan (pictured).
'Tom will be the quickest guy in the competition. There is no doubt about that. He was the fastest at the World Cup,' Ryan said.
'Then we have Josh Drauniniu, an awesome athlete and two other fast men in Ollie Phillips and Tom Biggs.'
It will take some stopping England's speed merchants. The best way for the opposition will be to deny them the ball. That will be hard as there is plenty of power in the forwards department, with the likes of Isoa Damudamu and Chris Cracknell leading the way.
