Mamma Mia! (DVD)
An all-star cast which includes Oscar winners and pin-ups, beautiful shots of gorgeous Greek landscapes and some of the catchiest pop ever written combine to make one of the most enjoyable movies of 2008.
Originally a stage show based on the music of Swedish pop band Abba, Mamma Mia is a story about finding yourself.
The story starts the day before Sophie (Amanda Seyfried), a young woman who lives on a Greek island with her mother Donna (Meryl Streep), gets married. Sophie doesn't know her father, but she has written to the three men her mum dated before having her, inviting them to the wedding in the hope that she'll know her dad when she sees him.
Naturally, things don't go according to plan. Sophie doesn't tell her mum about the plan. So Donna is furious when she comes face to face with her old flames (Pierce Brosnan, Colin Firth and Stellan Skarsgard). As with any good musical, everything comes right in the end.
The DVD bonus features include the 'making of' the movie, hilarious music videos and director's commentary. But as enjoyable as these are, it's the sight of Streep and a crowd of women singing Dancing Queen that make this film an absolutely crucial investment.
