Internships 'should be excluded' from bill

The proposed minimum-wage law should not apply to tertiary-level students in internship programmes required for their studies, as that might affect their on-the-job training opportunities, Secretary for Labour and Welfare Matthew Cheung Kin-chung said yesterday. The government would also consider views on including domestic helpers in the legislation. His comments came as the Labour Advisory Board was due to meet today.
