Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) choirs will be presenting a Nocturnal Spring concert tomorrow and their 2009 Spring Choral Concert on Sunday. This year's concerts will feature the Hong Kong Baptist University Choir and the Hong Kong Baptist University Girls' Choir. The two choirs are led by newly appointed director John Winzenburg, assistant professor of music at HKBU and a former United States Fulbright research fellow specialising in contemporary Chinese-western fusion composition. The concert will include a colourful variety of styles from around the world, including Brahms' Gypsy Songs, as well as classic and contemporary oratorios and opera selections. The girls' choir will be performing an assortment of madrigals, followed by Gabriel Faure's Romantic Messe Basse accompanied by guest faculty organist David Francis Urrows. The concert will end with a Gershwin medley from Porgy and Bess and a final set by both choirs with percussionists performing songs from Senegal and Brazil. The event is free and will be held at the Academic Community Hall of HKBU. For more information, call 3411 7096.
