The credit crisis and rollercoaster stock price haven't given HSBC very much to be cheerful about lately, but perhaps staff morale was raised slightly this week when the bank won the Top Donor Award for the Community Chest's 2008 Dress Special Day, which took place on September 30. More than 13,400 employees took part in the fund-raising campaign. Altogether they contributed more than HK$1.67 million, a 13 per cent increase on the previous year. HSBC has dominated the honour, as it has won the top donor prize for 16 straight years. Perhaps it's no surprise, given the size of the company. In a ceremony on Tuesday, Chief Secretary Henry Tang Ying-yen (pictured) presented a plaque to the bank's head of corporate sustainability for the Asia-Pacific region, Teresa Au. Well, it's nice to know they still do good even when they're not doing well. But let's see if the folks there can afford to dress special next year.
