REHEARSALS for the Wah Yan Dramatic Society's English language Chinese opera were under way at Lee Ching Dea Memorial College yesterday. The charity performance, to be staged at the Cultural Centre on April 17, has a cast of well known government officials and business people, and will raise money for the Tung Wah Group of Hospitals. Titled A Tale Of Two Kingdoms, the performance retains all the traditional hallmarks of Chinese opera, but the dialogue is in English. The opera is the latest work from the dramatic society's founder, Wong Chin-wah, who started the organisation in a bid to bring the delights of Chinese opera to Westerners and other Asian cultures. High-profile guests who will be performing in next month's show include Secretary for Home Affairs Michael Suen Ming-yeung, Director of Education Dominic Wong Shing-wah and the Director of the Royal Observatory, Patrick Sham Pak. Chief Secretary Anson Chan Fang On-sang will officiate. Tickets are available from the Tung Wah Group of Hospitals and URBTIX outlets for $2,000, $300 and $100.
