Don't pack away your scarves just yet. Now is the perfect time to incorporate your favourite pieces by mixing and matching them with your spring wardrobe. Scarves can look good on anyone. Ben (right) was on the way to join friends in Lan Kwai Fong when I spotted him and asked for a snapshot. Having just finished work, the fashion stylist went for a retro party look. I like the way he has incorporated spring's colour-blocking trend by wearing bright blue jeans with basic black and white on top. He's made his jeans look even more modern by rolling them up and pairing them with a casual pair of beige Converse trainers. His rainbow coloured chequered scarf adds an extra layer while pulling the look together. It might be hard to imagine wearing spring's bright colour palette from head to toe, but one colourful item, such as Ben's scarf and jeans, can keep your outfit from looking bland. Emily (far right) sports a rebellious rocker look with her black and grey chequered fringe scarf. She has opted for a casual outfit with a black hoodie and a pair of well-worn jeans tucked into grey leather boots. I like the way she has accessorised with an oversized crystal-studded watch. She has let the ends of her scarf hang loose at the front, adding an extra layer to her outfit. Her smoky eyes and shocking pink nail polish add to her rock look. Take a lead from these two and don't just wear your scarves with a winter coat - T-shirts and jumpers work just as well. Scarves are useful to add layers or colour to dark or neutral outfits. Fashion icons such as Kate Moss, Mischa Barton and Ashley Olsen are known for accessorising a simple white tee with a McQueen skull print or Balenciaga ethnic print scarf to create a stylish look. Either casually loop the scarf around your neck or fold it and tuck the ends away. You can also try adding a lean chain necklace as seen on the Marc by Marc Jacobs spring runway. I've seen a black-and-red crinkled scarf at Muji (3/F Lee Theatre Plaza, 99 Percival St, Causeway Bay, tel: 2808 0622), and a lightweight black and grey wool scarf with a logo print at Agnes (Shop 3089-97, IFC Mall, 8 Finance St, Central, tel: 2805 0687). DKNY has a lemon yellow slim scarf (Shop OT 310B, 3/F Ocean Terminal, Harbour City, TST, tel: 3105 8384) if you want something colourful. For some bargain buys, I recommend you also check out the night market on Temple Street - just don't wear keffiyeh scarves - they're so last season.
