Ex-bank worker guilty of stealing HK$100m

A former Hang Seng Bank customer manager accused of stealing more than HK$100 million from clients - including former actress and one-time Miss Hong Kong contender Chingmy Yau Suk-ching and comic illustrator Ma Wing-shing - pleaded guilty yesterday to 17 charges of theft.

Cheuk Sau-yee, 31, will be sentenced in the District Court on May 5.

Her boyfriend, Jason Chan Chun-sing, 31, who is accused of acting with her, pleaded not guilty to one count of money laundering.

He is scheduled for a five-day trial beginning on July 31, at which the prosecution said the key witness would be a Treasury accountant. The court heard Cheuk would be called as a witness during Chan's trial.

Cheuk has been remanded in jail custody and Chan has been released on bail.

The court heard that Cheuk stole a total of about HK$108 million from 13 clients between February 2007 and June last year, including about HK$22 million from Mr Ma and HK$22.6 million from Ms Yau.
