The special duties unit is the finest of Asia's finest. Officers from the elite police strike force are muscular men in balaclavas trained to abseil from helicopters, kick down doors and take down terrorists. The special operators are all skilled in reconnaissance, assault diving, tactical climbing, close-quarter combat and combat medicine.
But perhaps in an attempt to soften their intimidating image, the police are selling cute and cuddly mini-SDU figurines (pictured), at just HK$8 apiece. The series includes all the key sections of the police force. Besides the feared SDU, there are figurines for traffic officers, beat police, airport security officers, and those from the anti-riot and tactical unit. The set costs HK$45.
It is all for a good cause. Part of the profits will be donated to the police welfare fund.
