Monopoly showdown in America needs a Hong Kong player

Hong Kong's best Monopoly player is sought to play on the city's behalf in the Monopoly World Championship.

The international competition takes place once every four years - this is the 13th session.

It will be held in Las Vegas in the United States in October. Players from more than 30 countries will fight for the world title and a cash prize of US$20,580 - the total amount of money in the game.

The Hong Kong round is open for application until May 3. A total of 150 entrants, all permanent residents of Hong Kong, will be randomly selected from the application pool to enter the tournament, which will be composed of three preliminary rounds and a final, on May 17.

The city's top player will win round-trip tickets to Las Vegas and hotel accommodation, and will represent Hong Kong in the three-day competition.

Spaniard Antonio Fernandez was the winner of the last world competition in 2004.
