Company recalls pain-relief patches

Mentholatum (Asia Pacific) recalled packs of five pain patches yesterday. The Department of Health said the pharmaceutical firm had not provided sufficient information for registration. A company spokesman said registration was originally not needed as it was classified as Chinese medicine. Registration for Chinese medicine was later required, so an application as a western medicine was made in 2005, but the department had not yet approved it.
