La Parole

Richard Tse

Fare European with a smattering of Belgian (mussels in white wine, Flemish chicken stew, waterzooi).

Ambience A modern eatery tucked away among other restaurants in a busy shopping mall. The discreet entrance leads to a snug, naturally lit dining room overlooking the channel and bridges to the Kowloon peninsula.

Cost HK$350 each without drinks a la carte; HK$98-HK$128 for the three-course semi-buffet lunch (from noon to 3pm).

Who to bring A lunch date or the girls in your shopping sorority.

Turn-ons A choice of bread rolls served warm - a big plus for restaurants in this price bracket. The small lunch buffet table presented an adequate spread with western and Asian influences. These included tomato and mozzarella with pesto dressing, cold cuts, sushi and salad leaves. My generously portioned main course of rib-eye steak was cooked as ordered and came with fat chips and ratatouille.

Turn-offs Though the service was prompt, my main course arrived midway through my starter and was left at the table. The small tables are very closely packed and negotiating your way to the buffet table requires some dexterity. The mark-up on the wines was a little high.

Drinks Fully stocked bar and a wine list from most of the leading wine producing countries, HK$180-HK$2,000+.
