All's Well Ends Well 2009 (DVD)
If you're a Hongkonger, All's Well Ends Well 2009 is an absolute must-see. This is the fourth part in a series of Lunar New Year films that started in 1992, and some of the original cast and humour remain. While Stephen Chow Sing-chi is gone, and Ronald Cheng Chung-kei and Louis Koo Tin-lok appear, main duo Sandra Ng Kwan-yu and Raymond Wong Pak-ming are still in top form.
Ng plays Sandra, the chief editor of a magazine who, due to her high expectations of relationships, believes being single is best.
Cheng plays her brother, Kei, who believes his failed relationships are caused by a curse which will be broken when Sandra is married.
Kei hires a love therapist, played by Koo, to save his sister from singlehood, while Wong plays a rich man who becomes Sandra's boss.
Ng and Wong are bound to draw in the masses, both young and old. Young people will enjoy the festive comedy, while parents will enjoy the references to the older films - Ng's messy hair and stubbly upper lip appear here.
It's rare to see Koo in comedic roles, but he pulls it off - Koo fans in particular will be pleasantly surprised by his performance.
