A more general line of inquiry

Sara Yin

Hong Kong's take on liberal studies aligns the subject more with general studies than the more traditional definition as 'a combined arts subject'. The local curriculum divides the subject into four areas of study:

Personal development and interpersonal relationships.

Society and culture, comprising Hong Kong today, modern China and globalisation.

Science, technology and the environment in two modules: public health; and energy, technology and the environment.

Independent inquiry study: 'Making use of the knowledge and perspectives gained from the three areas of study [above] and extending them to new areas or contexts'. The following themes are suggested as a guide: media, education, religion, sport, art, and information and communication technology.
