I REFER to the letter in the South China Morning Post, from Mr Patrick Mok of Kowloon, published on March 17 and headlined, ''Navigation lights were off''.
Our records indicate that all aeronautical ground lights located in Kowloon were switched on between 7 pm and 7.33 pm on March 11 of this year. Further the computer which monitors the functioning of the lighting system did not indicate any fault having occurred during that period.
However, in the interests of flight safety, we would like to know the exact location of the three lights which were seen by Mr Mok to have been inoperative.
Therefore I should be grateful if he would contact Mr K. H. Ip, Senior Operations Officer of the Civil Aviation Department on telephone No 769 7673.
ALBERT K. Y. LAM Acting Air Traffic General Manager Civil Aviation Department
