THE recent issue regarding discipline on Hong Kong's escalators continues to be debated and is, of course, evident within the MTR. Some time ago, the attempt which was made through paltry sidewall advertising, the appearance of minuscule centre signs and the occasional public address announcement, obviously failed to overcome the problem. Current MTR travellers would confirm and agree that the culprits (left-hand standers) still exist daily. The London Underground and certainly its users would not tolerate this behaviour and perhaps the MTR Corporation through its close ties with London Transport, could find the solution to escalator free flow amongst the historical problematic records within the London Underground organisation. Failing this, would not whopping big signs on the approach to the escalators suffice? WILLIAM MULVIHILL South Horizons
