Kevin McQuillan, British Airways regional general manager, Far East
How does one become an airport-friendly traveller?
Whatever airline we're on, we all have to pass through security, so it pays to prepare to avoid the 'beep' and that almost-invasive wand search. Make sure you ditch your loose change [preferably to charity], get the laptop and liquids out of your bag and drop your belt and jacket [with phone] in a tray. Doing so should help you pass through beep-free, stress-free and with your dignity intact; oh, and it should enable you to get to your gate on time for a prompt departure.
Which destination have you returned to again and again?
Not surprisingly, London is the place I travel to most frequently for business, but I love going back to San Francisco. I worked there with British Airways for four years and adore the atmosphere of the different neighbourhoods, the restaurants, people and the range of travel options on your doorstep. I'm pretty sure I'll be saying the same thing about Hong Kong in a few years.
What are your quirky plane habits?
I don't like to move around during a flight, so before takeoff I lay out the things I'll need. If I'm on a night flight, I change into some comfortable clothes before takeoff. That way I can avoid the rush to the changing room and feel ready for bed. If I'm not working or sleeping, I find a long flight is a perfect opportunity to get absorbed in a movie. As well as new releases, I like to revisit some of the classics and there's a broad selection of each on our flights.
