Can't afford a real vacation right now? Then maybe drop into the Hermes store in the Galleria in Central next week for the next best thing. In the spirit of this season's theme of 'beautiful escape', the label recruited Hong Kong-based travel filmmaker and explorer Craig Leeson to create three displays in the shop to resemble a nomadic hut from Urumqi in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, a Vietnamese village scene, and a sandy beach on the island of Mauritius. If you're one of the brand's VIPs, Leeson will also take you on a little tour of the world through the three exotic regions' different teas. 'Tea seemed an integral part of a lot of cultures I visited,' Leeson suggested. 'Just going to a place and seeing and hearing the sights and sounds is not enough. You have to be able to taste it.' Too bad it's just for Hermes' invited VIPs. However, Leeson will be around the shop next week between Tuesday and Thursday. Ask nicely and maybe he'll tell you about bartering for a yak carpet on the Silk Road or about a Vietnamese village that is now a highway.
