A new hi-tech campus TV station at City University will go live on Monday with a bulletin promising the latest news on swine flu. CityTV will broadcast programmes made by students for students across the Kowloon Tong campus, with screens installed in the canteen and the main concourse. A team of 25 students are preparing programmes for the channel in a new HK$10 million suite of studios and labs set up within the media and communications department. Final-year student Xu Xiao Yue, 21, who is news anchor for the first programme, said: 'We are preparing a news wrap of the most important news of the week and a special feature on swine flu. This TV station gives us hands-on experience where we can reinforce our learning.' Yan Yan, 27, a PhD student in the department, said: 'My ambition is to become a TV journalist and this experience will help me a lot.' Project leader He Zhou said the weekly programme would initially be broadcast on Mondays and Wednesdays at 12.30pm and 5.30pm and uploaded to the internet and YouTube. 'By the end of next semester, we hope to broadcast a daily news and current affairs programme, with about 30 students involved,' he said. Sports programmes, weather forecasts and science features will also be developed.
