Angry parents have threatened to lodge a complaint with the Education Bureau if the English Schools Foundation presses ahead with a decision next month to switch to a four-term school year.

The ESF has extended a one-month consultation on the proposed move - which would take effect in September next year - by two weeks after 65 per cent of parents voted against it in an initial online ballot.

Parents now have until next Friday to vote and submit their views on two options for switching to a four-term school year - models B and C - with an extra two-week holiday in October and a shorter, earlier summer break. A third option - model A - retains the existing three-term school year.

ESF chiefs will analyse the results before making a presentation to the foundation's governing board on June 16, when a final decision is due to be made.

Teresa Hale, of Tai Po, who has two boys at Sha Tin College, said she had already decided to withdraw her eldest son and send him to school in Britain in September.
