Sarcar rarely does things by halves and this year is no exception. Whirling diamonds, spinning koi fish and twisting dragons are just some of the features on the brand's new models showcased at BaselWorld 2009. The star of the show was undoubtedly the Twister, according to Steve Lau Tsz-chung, regional brand manager at Supreme Elite, Sarcar's distributor in Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan. The Twister is so called because of the free spinning one brilliant-cut diamond set at 12o'clock. A small magnet is attached to the bottom of the diamond, and the magnet's polarity reacts with its surroundings, whirling the diamond around until the magnet reaches its equilibrium. The model comes in two looks, both with an 18 carat white gold bezel set with brilliant-cut diamonds. The relatively subdued version depicts a dragon painted on mother-of-pearl with the diamond where the head should be, and the time at 6o'clock with the watch hands set on a small dial paved with diamonds and precious stones. The Four Elements version dazzles with a full diamond pav? dial with the whirling diamond at 12o'clock representing air, the set ruby at 3o'clock symbolising fire, the green emeralds marking the indexes of the small dial at 6o'clock for Earth and the sapphire set at 9o'clock for water. The koi pond watch model also makes use of a magnet in its design. The dial is decorated to look like a vivid blue pond with floating green lily pads, with an orange and white koi fish spinning around the circumference of the dial. Between 9o'clock and 12o'clock, however, a small lily paved with diamonds and a precious stone covers the dial, and under the lily is a small magnet that temporarily stalls the koi as it swims past the 10o'clock mark. Sarcar tones down the wild colours a notch with the Diamond Drop model. The evening watch is 'more a piece of watch jewellery than a jewellery watch', Mr Lau said. The overall effect is simple but stunning, with the diamond-paved bezel shaped like an upside-down teardrop on a black sateen strap. The dial is either mother-of-pearl or set with diamonds. The brand plays with layers with its Miss Amber model. The watch face consists of a piece of amber polished so thin near the centre that a muted image of the hands underneath can be seen through the translucent layer. The numerals 12, 3, 6 and 9 are engraved in brown at the corresponding indexes. The gold bezel and lugs are set with diamonds, the crown is inlaid with a round piece of amber, and the golden brown strap completes the look.
