Watch with Mother

As the potty-mouthed but loving stepmum of a pregnant teenager, Allison Janney's Brenda MacGuff takes the cake for Cool Movie Moms.

Juno follows a teen's adventures over nine months, where she is more concerned with 'getting the bun out of the oven' than in coming up with baby names.

This is a quirky, but heart-warming, coming-of-age tale about a girl who thought she knew everything about womanhood but realises she knows nothing.

It sounds like it could be an awkward one to watch with Mum, but the events are usually so exaggerated, the two of you will laugh, not cringe, together.

Whether the 2002 original or the 2006 sequel, the hilarious computer-animated Ice Age movies are perfect family film fodder.

The film begins with a squirrel called Scrat who is trying to find a place to store his prized acorn. My whole family loves Scrat, so he's something we bond over.

The story is about a bunch of animals trying to avoid the ice age by migrating south. No matter how often you watch it, the series is always entertaining. Mother's Day is a great time to review the movies before Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs, comes out this summer.

It's said you have to put yourself in another's shoes to understand and appreciate them, but even this is apparently not enough to reconcile the constantly arguing mother and daughter in Freaky Friday. Like many rebellious teens and their busy parents, single mom Tess and her teenage daughter Anna don't get along. They disagree on everything, from music taste to Tess' choice of fianc?.

Not until one magical day, when each finds herself trapped in the other's body, does their relationship start to improve and they start to understand the other's viewpoint.

This amusing comedy is a bit cheesy at times, but it reminds us of the secret of good parent-child relationship: love and respect. The biggest problem is choosing between the original 1976 version with a young Jodie Foster and the 2003 remake starring Lindsay Lohan. It's enough to start a fight.

A story about pampered dogs and a too-indulgent mistress, Beverly Hills Chihuahua is a light family movie that you can watch with your mum, especially if she is a dog lover. All the dogs stars are absolutely adorable and the way the dogs act like humans is so much fun to watch.

Chloe spends her days shopping at brand-name stores and enjoying spas. The attention she gets from her mistress is reminiscent of an overly affectionate mother. Their relationship is something for both mothers and children to think about.

It can be quite difficult to pick the right movie to watch with your mum, but girls will almost certainly bond with her over Confessions of a Shopaholic, a perfect girls' film about clothes, shoes and shopping.

The movie also deals with friendship, and romantic and family relationships - a great springboard for talking to you mum about your issues and working out the solutions together.
