Like Step Up and Turn it Up, Stomp the Yard is about hip hop dance and features some gorgeous choreography. But this is a movie that is about more than just dancing - it's about attitude towards life.

Directed by Sylvain White, Stomp the Yard is a dance-drama about teenagers looking for meaning in their lives. When DJ Williams (Columbus Short), an underground street dancer, and his crew win a cash prize in a local dance competition, the losing crew responds by ambushing DJ and his crewmates on their way home. DJ's younger brother, Duron, is killed in the fight.

DJ's mother sends him to live with his aunt and uncle, and there he starts to attend Truth University. He is attracted to a girl called April, who is the girlfriend of the leader of a fraternity called Mu Gamma Xi. DJ joins the Theta fraternity and gradually earns acceptance at university, gets the girl and wins the big dance prize for his fraternity.

The last scene of the movie sees DJ in the final round of the national stepping competition. DJ uses the moves that Duron, his dead brother, used to win his last competition.

By the end of the movie, DJ has become a more mature person. His passion towards dance and attitude about life are also worth learning from. I took a lot away from this movie.
