The 'Louis Vuitton: A Passion for Creation' by Louis Vuitton and the Fondation Louis Vuitton pour la Creation, organised by the Museum of Art, will be held as part of Le French May 2009 from tomorrow to August 9.

This is the first time that the Fondation Louis Vuitton pour la Cr?ation will display its top-range collection of modern art works to the public in Asia. The exhibition is dedicated to playing out the story of Louis Vuitton, using artworks and archive documents to illustrate the creative process that has taken place.

Without even having to enter the museum, the fa?ade of the building already offers an attractive art piece for passers-by. American artist Richard Prince wrapped his After Dark series around the outer walls, adding a special art landscape to the view of Victoria Harbour. The piece captures the mystique of the nightlife and the desire that lies between fantasy and reality.

On the inside, the exhibition is divided into several sections to express the different concepts and practices of contemporary and avant-garde art.

It starts with the display of Louis Vuitton's signature antique trunks and suitcases which have become a symbol of 'art travelling'. Painting, installation, fashion and sculpture works of artists and designers such as Takashi Murakami, Stephen Sprouse and Richard Prince, who all have collaborated with the luxury brand before, will be showcased. The evolution of contemporary art is shown through the artists and designers' skilful incorporation of the Louis Vuitton monogram into the art pieces.

The contemporary art collection from the Fondation Louis Vuitton pour la Cr?ation will be on display in the second section of the exhibition. There are large-scale works, sculptures, photographs, films and installations by well-known European, American and Chinese artists such as Jean-Michel Basquiat, Cao Fei, Paul Chan, Gilbert & George, Dominique Gonzalez-Foerster, Andreas Gursky, Pierre Huyghe, Jeff Koons, Bertrand Lavier, Christian Marclay, Richard Prince and Yang Fudong. The art works express the feelings and perceptions of the various artists, along with questions about modern urban life.
