Award-winning Japanese actor Yousuke Kubozuka shocked fans when he fell from his ninth-floor flat five years ago. Now he's back with a new career and a new name.

Kubozuka, 30, is now a DJ/singer and a fashion trendsetter. He has changed his name to Manji Line to distinguish himself from his acting background. The singer was in Hong Kong last week to perform three gigs at local clubs.

Dressed in a loose red T-shirt and baggy pants, Kubozuka's skinny frame looked as if it had shrunk into his clothes. To this day no one knows exactly what caused his fall - including Kubozuka himself. At the time he told the media that for three days after the accident he had no memory. Some say it was to do with drugs or money, while others speculate that it was related to religion.

While in Hong Kong Kubozuka (left) avoided questions about the accident, but he was happy to talk about his music and his love for reggae.

'It has a great vibe and gives me the energy to do things,' he said, adding that he started listening to reggae partly because of his wife, Non, a former reggae dancer. The couple have a five-year-old son.

But having a family hasn't stopped Kubozuka from spending time on his music. He has travelled to Jamaica on several occasions to learn reggae, and last June he realised his dream when he released a self-titled album, Manji LINE; he wrote the lyrics for all 16 songs. Kubozuka is now working on his second album which features 18 songs and is a collaboration with other reggae artists.
