Rare Treasure fit and ready to make light work of weight rise
Rare Treasure finally shook off his soundness issues to score a terrific win last start and he is set to make light work of a rise in weight in the final leg of tomorrow night's Triple Trio at Happy Valley.
The John Size-trained gelding burst on the scene with a comprehensive victory at his debut in May last year, but he pulled up with a lame right fore after his second outing and was given a break from racing.
He returned to the track on February 8 with a luckless performance behind Lucky Red when badly blocked for a run, but struggled at his next outing two weeks later after being forced to cover ground.
Although he could only manage an 11th placing behind Good Luck Win on March 15, there was clearly some merit in his performance, given he was posted wide throughout.
Size switched the five-year-old to Happy Valley for the first time last start, and the more forgiving surface seemed to do the trick, as the chestnut came with a powerful finishing burst in the straight, despite covering ground from gate nine, to post a narrow victory over My Time.
With the advantage of barrier five this time, Rare Treasure should be afforded a much easier time of things in the run under Douglas Whyte, and he strikes the ideal event to post back-to-back wins.
