Programme puts teams on track
The MTR Corporation revamped its Work Improvement Team Training Scheme (WIT), a quality control programme, following its merger with the Kowloon-Canton Railway Corporation in December 2007.
With its workforce almost doubled to 13,000 after the merger, the MTR identified some urgent issues that needed to be addressed.
'We need to align the difference in work practices among the two pre-merger railway corporations and WIT is the strategic channel to effectively work on this mission,' said Sarah Shum, MTR training officer.
With the aim of bringing the companies' two corporate cultures together, the programme started with the setting up of voluntary teams in various divisions in the company.
Each team consists of a team leader, a facilitator and several members who initiate and implement work improvement projects.
MTR management training and development manager Chester Tsang said more than 95 per cent of the target trainees had participated in the voluntary training programme since it was rolled out less than a year ago.
