Actor-singer Edison Chen Koon-hei says he may return to Hong Kong show business soon.

The beleaguered star, who has kept away from show-business circles since a sex-photo scandal broke last year, says he has never vowed to quit the entertainment industry.

'This is funny because a lot of the media, especially the Chinese media, have said that Edison says he's quitting the entertainment industry forever,' Chen told CNN in an interview for the programme TalkAsia.

'I actually said 'indefinitely'. Now, maybe some people don't understand what 'indefinitely' means. It could mean five minutes. It can mean 2,000 years. I never said 'forever'.'

Chen's career was put on hold after more than 500 sex photos of him with a string of female celebrities started circulating on the internet in February last year. He emerged from more than a month's silence to apologise publicly and said he would step away from the city's entertainment industry indefinitely.

Chen's management agency said no job had been arranged for him. The star was in town on personal business only and would return to the US shortly, it said.
