CCC Tam Lee Lai Fun Memorial Secondary School (TLLF) overcame stiff opposition to win the Panasonic Inter-school Basketball Competition at the Southorn Stadium in Wan Chai last Thursday. TLLF faced a strong challenge from Ying Wa College and Diocesan Boys' School (DBS) in the tournament organised by the Hong Kong Basketball Association. Over the past four years, all the inter-school basketball finals were contested by Ying Wa and DBS. But this year, it was TLLF's turn to show their mettle. TLLF took on Ying Wa in the semi-finals, which went into overtime to decide the winner. TLLF finally edged out Ying Wa 42-40 in a thriller. In the other semi-final, highly-rated DBS defeated CCC Kwei Wah Shan College 24-20 to secure a place in the final. Before the final, there was a highly entertaining game played by singers, celebrities and local basketball league stars. This was followed by the presentation of souvenirs to the participants in the friendly. In the final, DBS were no match for TLLF who controlled the game from start to finish, and thrashed their rivals 58-40. TLLF also swept the three individual awards. Form Six student, Wu Siu-chi, won the Best Scorer and Most Valuable Player awards, while Cheng Chak was crowned the Best Three-point Shooter. 'I'm very happy today because we won. We finally beat the top two schools to claim the championship,' said Siu-chi. 'We were really confident about facing DBS in the final after defeating Ying Wa in the semi-finals.' Chak said he was surprised to win the individual award. 'I am very surprised but happy to win the individual award. But winning the championship is much more important. That was just reward for the hard work put in by the whole team,' said the Form Seven student. TLLF boys are now preparing for the Hong Kong Inter-School Basketball Marathon which will be held later this month.
