In Hong Kong, organised activities will include a hike organised by Clear the Air, which the organiser hopes will encourage the government to bring the territory's air quality objectives in line with the standards recommended by the World Health Organisation. The rally will take place on July 1, starting with a hike around Tai Tam Harbour and Tam Tuk Reservoir and end with a march from Victoria Park to Central.

Rachel Pang, vice-chairman of Clear the Air, said pressuring politicians to take action to combat climate change was one of the most important things that individuals could do to create change for a better environment. She added that reducing energy consumption in daily life was also important and recommended that individuals reduce, reuse and recycle.

The Luxe Manor hotel in Tsim Sha Tsui is also participating in World Environment Day with a 'Make a Wish, Save the World' campaign. From today to July 31, people around the world logging on to the hotel's website can play an online game. Each participant must submit a wish about how he or she would like to help protect the environment from pollution and global warming. Each wish will be voted for by others logging on to the site. Flights to Hong Kong and accommodation at the hotel are part of a grand prize.

Kevin Ng, group executive of branding and communications at GR8 Leisure Concepts, the hotel's management company, said The Luxe Manor's participation in World Environment Day reinforced its role as an environmentally aware and socially responsible organisation in addition to raising awareness of environmental protection.
