Handling the virus threat correctly
I think the government has done a great job of containing the swine flu virus in Hong Kong.
After identifying the first case of swine flu on May 1, the patient was kept in isolation in hospital for a week. Staff and guests at the Metropark Hotel, where the man had stayed, were also quarantined. This drew criticism from abroad as an 'overreaction', but I think it was commendable.
With memories of Sars still fresh, the government took action decisively because it didn't want the virus to spread among the society. I think that's better than just advising people not to travel if they are sick because not everyone will listen to advice.
Whatever people might say, I think Hong Kong is going about dealing with this threat in the right way.
