Indian professor to speak at Lingnan University

Prominent economist Avinash Dixit is set to give his inaugural lecture at Lingnan University today. Professor Dixit, who was recently appointed by the university as its distinguished adjunct professor of economics, will give a talk on 'Governance Institutions & Economic Development'. Born in India, and with a PhD in economics from Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Professor Dixit has made significant contributions in the field of economics.

King George V teacher dies

Long-serving King George V School teacher Ian Leatham died this week. Principal Ed Wickins said Leatham had been suffering from an inoperable brain tumour which kept him away from school this academic year. He described Leatham's contribution to the school as 'outstanding', adding: 'We recognise the need to support his many friends on the staff and those students whose lives were touched by his excellent teaching, wit and personality.'

Unesco holds photo contest

A United Nation photography contest is calling for entries to promote gender equality in education, it was announced this week. Unesco Bangkok - along with the United Nations Girl's Education Initiative, East Asia and the Pacific and South Asia - said many Asia-Pacific countries were still far from gender equal in education. The competition is open to everyone, and multiple entries are allowed. The closing date is the end of July and 13 winning photos will be chosen by the end of September. E-mail [email protected].
