Emmy the Great 
First Love  
(Love Da Records)    
Describing yourself as great  means you have some hyperbole  to live up to and her debut First Love gets Emma-Lee Moss  off to  an uncertain start.
She is undoubtedly pretty-voiced and her lyrics can be fresh and ironic, but at times her brand of indie folk is too cute by far. 
She succeeds on tracks such as MIA, as she jauntily recounts her lover's death in a car crash, but the lyrics and delivery of We Almost Had a Baby  are so girlish as to  make one cringe.
Emma-Lee Moss, who was born in Hong Kong to a Chinese mother and an English father before moving to Britain at the age of 12, has  built a solid fan base among people attracted by her melodies and  straightforwardness in a world dominated by Amy Winehouse and the  Pussycat Dolls, but to move from pleasant to brilliant she needs more musical oomph.
