It has been a rocky road for Danesis this season, but the dirt specialist returns to his grade and surface and that signals a return to form in the Skol Cup (1,650m).

The Tony Cruz-trained five-year-old had looked a horse of serious promise last season and particularly on the dirt, where he assembled a strong record at the all-weather mile, winning three of his first four starts over the trip.

Then it all went sour when he failed as favourite at his two most recent outings in December and February.

In the first of those flops there were vet issues involved, but the Danehill entire was then unable to ever get into the February race from a wide alley and looked to have lost the early speed which had previously characterised his style.

It was back to the drawing board and while Danesis has had no excuse in two defeats since, they have been encouraging as he showed himself able to get into a race early.

Danesis led before finding Jamesina too strong over 1,800m on the turf. He again figured prominently in the speed to the home turn in the QE II Cup before the class factor kicked in and he finished well back.
