Will they or won't they? That's the big question looming over 'Dream Wedding', Leon Lai Ming's upcoming series of wedding-themed concerts. With rumours swirling that Lai (above) will propose to his girlfriend, fashion model Gaile Lok, during one of the shows, Canto-pop fans are growing ever more eager for the three-hour shows next month. But Lai has tried his best to dash any hope for such a spectacular surprise.
'I've been in the business for such a long time. I'm very professional,' Lai said recently, adding that the name of the show was inspired by the fact that, according to the Chinese calendar, this year's an auspicious one for weddings.
'Doing a concert is 100 per cent for my paying audiences. There won't be any private issues in the show, especially those concerning my personal life.'
Lai must be used to the focus on his personal life. He is local pop royalty, one of the 'four heavenly kings' who burst onto the Hong Kong pop arena in the early 1990s. During the intervening two decades, he's released dozens of albums in Cantonese, Putonghua, Japanese and Korean, starred in about 40 films and appeared in 12 television shows.
Lai was born in Beijing, but moved to Hong Kong with his family when he was five.
