Tengzhong announced on June 3 that it had reached a tentative deal to buy Hummer, a sport utility vehicle unit of General Motors Corp, a US carmaking giant that has filed for bankruptcy protection.

Mr Suolang, the controlling shareholder of Lumena, whose initial public offering closed on Tuesday, said he had mentioned to certain people his potential interest in the Hummer acquisition.

'As confirmed by Mr Suolang, he would or might participate in the Hummer acquisition ... alongside Tengzhong as a member of a consortium,' Lumena chief executive Zhang Daming said in a statement to the Hong Kong stock exchange on Tuesday.

'Mr Suolang currently does not own any interest in Tengzhong.'

The statement said Tengzhong was an independent third party with a business unrelated to Lumena. It said Mr Suolang had been an equity holder of Sichuan Huatuo, the parent of Tengzhong, from January to August 2005.
