FTU rallies outside Link Reit office over contract changes
About 30 members of the Federation of Trade Unions protested outside The Link Reit office in Wong Tai Sin, claiming its recent contractual changes in car park and shopping-mall management would lead to 100 job losses and pay cuts for workers. The Link Reit confirmed its contracts with car park management companies would end by next month, adding that new agents would set its management plan. It said it had specified that the wages of frontline staff should not be lower than market rates.
Hybrid vehicles to get HK trial
The government will begin trials of two mainland-made hybrid vehicles from next month, permanent secretary for the environment Anissa Wong Sean-yee said. She said it was hoped the trial could help assess this type of vehicle, which uses both petrol engine and electricity for propulsion, in Hong Kong, and also encourage the public to learn more about it.
Democratic fund-raiser a success
The Democratic Party said an eight-week fund-raising drive had boosted its coffers by more than HK$1.2 million, up from the HK$1.01 million it raised last year. Despite the increase, the party said the average amount of money raised from each of its 309 donation kiosks across the city was down from HK$2,623 last year to HK$2,427 this year.
