Travel agent levy reduction The government is aiming to halve temporarily the 0.3 per cent tour fare levy on travel agents from November this year, according to a paper to the Legislative Council. It also supports the travel industry's proposals to set up a levy rate adjustment mechanism, which will allow the suspension of levy collection if the Travel Industry Compensation Fund reaches a certain level. Other recommendations include increasing the amount of ex gratia payments to outbound travellers under the Package Tour Accident Contingency Fund Scheme for compassionate visits by relatives and funeral-related expenses from HK$40,000 to HK$100,000. Fourth letter to job-row inquiry New World China Land chairman Henry Cheng Kar-shun has again written to a Legislative Council inquiry into the employment row over former housing chief Leung Chin-man, select committee deputy chairman Lee Wing-tat said. He said there were no plans to change the inquiry. It is the fourth such letter Mr Cheng has sent. Business community rates itself About 27 per cent of local companies consider that Hong Kong's business community is environmentally friendly, which trails behind the global average of 30 per cent, according to the Grant Thornton International Business Report 2009.
