Ani-Com and Games Hong Kong 2009 is just around the corner and is set to be the event of the summer for local otaku. Aside from the usual stalls offering Gunpla and Hello Kitty merchandise, the organisers have arranged a number of entertainment events. Convention-goers can watch the seventh The One dance competition, where groups of dancers show off their slick moves in three categories - hip hop, jazz and B-Boy - for a HK$10,000 prize. There is also the Heartbeat competition, where local bands can compete for cash prizes as well as possible record contracts. There will also be a number of live performances by local and Japanese musicians. The Japanese acts include Mikuni Shimokawa, Shoko Nakagawa, and the all-girl, high school rock band Scandal. Local acts include Climax, Ever, Soler, legendary local drummer Sai Wing, and previous Heartbeat competition winners Haze (2008) and Empty Tomb (2004). Budding manga/ manhua artist should consider entering the first Hong Kong Supernova Original Comics Contest for a HK$10,000 prize and a foot in the door of the local comic book industry.
