'Six pillars' push highly likely to succeed now, says Tsang
Chief Executive Donald Tsang Yam-kuen has rejected criticism of his administration's push to boost six 'pillars' or economic sectors in Hong Kong and said the chance of succeeding was higher now than it ever had been. 'There have been opinions that [developing the six pillars] is not a heaven-shaking and best-ever idea, but just [like] old wine in new bottles which the government has repeatedly discussed in the past 10 years,' Mr Tsang said on RTHK radio programme Hong Kong Letter yesterday. 'However, I believe this time ... the chance of success is higher than before because we are now in a better position in terms of the timing, opportunity, determination and resources.' His comments came after he announced last Monday, after a meeting of the Taskforce on Economic Challenges, initiatives to support the education and medical services sectors, including earmarking two sites for development of private universities and four for private hospitals.
