A special day is on cards for Whyte fans

With the might of a geared-up John Size stable behind him, Douglas Whyte looks to have a mortgage on today's final Jockey Challenge for the 2008-09 season.

The bad news is that it's as obvious to the Jockey Club oddsmakers as it is to Whyte's legion of fans, and they posted the Durban Demon as a $1.55 favourite on overnight betting markets.

The reality, however, is the odds-on quote is probably a fair price, as not only does Whyte have a full book of 11 rides, but it's one that simply bristles with chances.

He kicks off with a potential winner in the Class Five, Winning Ahead for in-form Tony Millard stable, and then comes his sparkling array of opportunities for the Size yard.

Sapelli ($23 favourite) should win the fourth, unbeaten Always Something ($14 favourite) looks a class above them in the sixth, and Whyte then slips home on top prospects in each of the last four races - Brom Brom ($27), Dr Possible ($33), Glory Of India ($43) and Special Days ($54).

Prebble also has a stellar set of rides, including six for the Caspar Fownes yard. But such is the quality and structure of Whyte's set that Prebble could forseeably ride a treble and still be beaten in the Challenge.
