Security guards at car parks operated by The Link Management vowed to stage another protest after The Link delayed a meeting with them to settle a dispute over their work shifts.
The Hong Kong Buildings Management and Security Workers General Union said yesterday members planned to protest outside The Link's office in Central on Tuesday over its 'irresponsible behaviour'.
This came after The Link postponed a meeting with representatives of security guards from today to Tuesday without giving a reason.
The security guards held several protests last month against the change from three eight-hour work shifts to two 12-hour shifts from mid-July. They said the longer hours would hurt family life and result in layoffs. The Link agreed to talk to worker representatives following a one-day strike by more than 60 car park staff last Friday.
'They told us this morning the meeting will be delayed to next week, but they didn't explain why. We think this is an irresponsible practice that showed a lack of respect,' union spokesman Tsang Chi-yan said.
The union was calling for more workers to join Tuesday's protest, he said. They would assemble at noon at Chater Garden and then march to The Link's office in Central. 'We want to urge The Link to face up to workers' requests and to not take a perfunctory attitude,' Mr Tsang said.
