Taiwanese singer-actor Jerry Yan Cheng-xu has spilled the beans on his last romantic relationship, implying that the woman he was madly in love with for several years was model-actress Lin Chi-ling.
'She really loved me but she was too good for me. I thought if someone else could give her happiness and a better life, I should let her go instead of keeping her with me and suffering with me. This is what I call true love,' Yan said during a recent edition of celebrity talk show Shen Chun Hua Live, which aired this week.
The host asked Yan (right) if his former girlfriend was the same person he thanked at one of his concerts in Tokyo last year. Yan said nothing but smiled back. He thanked two women, whom he said were the most important in his life, during his concert tour in Japan. One person was his mother and the other was Lin. It was rumoured that Lin was at the concert.
The pair were first romantically linked in 2002. It was also reported recently that Yan had forked out about HK$11 million to help pay off the debts of Lin's brother's cosmetics business.
Their relationship is said to have ended after Lin's career took off.
Yan, 32, a former member of boy band F4, said the relationship had lasted for several years and blamed his immaturity and lack of self-confidence for its end.
