All for a good cause A grandson and a great-grandson of Mahatma Gandhi will be leading a philanthropic tour around humanitarian programmes in India. The trip, organised by GoPhilanthropic (www. gophilanthropic.com), will begin in Mumbai on December 1 and visit sites that were important to the political and spiritual leader. A taste of culture This year's Singapore Food Festival, from July 17 to 26, will place special emphasis on the cuisine and culture of the Peranakan people. Descendants of Chinese who settled in the Malay archipelago in the 17th century, their cuisine (below) is based on aromatic roots and leaves and spicy rempah paste. Throughout the festival, Peranakan dishes will be available at participating restaurants while a 'Peranakan village' will open on Clarke Quay in the evenings, with a food street offering a cross section of Singapore's multicultural menu.
