Who started it? Jenni Kayne says knew she wanted to design clothes from an early age. She studied fashion at the Otis College of Art and Design, in Los Angeles, in the United States, before taking up apprenticeships with Zegna designer Ettore Veronese and Giuseppe Marzotto in Italy. In 2003, she returned to LA to launch her eponymous label - at the tender age of 19. She debuted her collection at LA Fashion Week and moved to New York in 2006, where she continues to show. Her classic-chic designs have become a favourite for celebrities such as Mary-Kate Olsen, Kristen Bell, Cameron Diaz and Selma Blair, and have been featured in Vogue, Elle and Harper's Bazaar. She recently opened a store in LA. Why we love it: Kayne's designs are classic and timeless pieces with an easy-to-wear vibe. They combine an elegant European aesthetic with the relaxed ease that contemporary American labels are known for, making them ideal for women who love high fashion but don't want to sacrifice comfort. Each piece stands on its own and you can easily mix and match her designs with your current wardrobe. The spring collection features signature styles such as tank and shirt dresses made using luxurious but comfortable fabrics such as silk, lightweight cotton and linen. What we'd pick: the simple but modern batwing dress (far left; US$750). For the evening, the shirt tail tank (US$350) matched with a high-waisted black skirt (US$575; both left).
