Trial therapy: Pacific Rainshower Ritual

What is it?

The Pacific Rainshower Ritual is a body scrub and massage under a warm Vichy shower. The treatment is a signature therapy of Quan Spas.

What was it like?

There's something indulgent about being showered by someone else, especially while lying flat on fluffy white towels. The Vichy shower allows for running water to cover the length of your body, evoking images of lying naked in the warm tropical rain. The ritual begins with an exfoliation using a salt-mousse scrub scented with the perfume of papaya and pineapple. The scrub soon foams into a deep-cleansing lather that removes impurities and toxins from the skin. The therapist then rinses off the scrub and applies a water-soluble oil. The oil feels different from those usually used to massage dry skin - it was slightly squeaky against the skin but much lighter and less greasy. The therapist gave an expert whole-body massage, focusing on my back and shoulders, which I had mentioned were my trouble spots. Guests can opt to not have their breasts exfoliated and massaged. The ritual comes to an end with the application of a soothing body moisturiser. I left feeling relaxed and revitalised.

What about the spa?

The Quan Spa is part of the Marriott brand and the Hong Kong branch opened early this year. It is a serene space in shades of oatmeal and shell. When I visited on a Friday evening, the spa was quiet. Customers are given the option of resting in the relaxation rooms after treatment. The spa also offers hair and nail treatments, a menu for children and in-room services for hotel guests. The spa uses Pevonia products only.

How much is it and where can I get it?

It's HK$720 for an hour at Quan Spa, Hong Kong SkyCity Marriott Hotel, 1 Sky City Rd East, Hong Kong International Airport, Lantau. For bookings, call 3969 1888 or e-mail [email protected]. The spa is open from 10am to 9pm daily.
