Teen wizards confront mystery prince
Almost four years to the day after the book was released, the film version of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince - the sixth instalment of the hugely popular series by J.K. Rowling - has finally arrived.
The teenage wizard (Daniel Radcliffe) and his best friends, Ron Weasley (Rupert Grint) and Hermione Granger (Emma Watson), are in their penultimate year at Hogwarts. Harry's nemesis, Lord Voldemort, has returned to his supporters, the Death Eaters, and is causing havoc in both the Muggle, or non-magical, and wizard worlds. This makes it very difficult for the trio to focus on their studies.
Using Harry's fame as bait, headmaster Professor Dumbledore (Michael Gambon) lures a past teacher, Professor Slughorn (Jim Broadbent), back to the school to teach the Potions class.
But Professor Dumbledore has a reason for getting Professor Slughorn back - he wants Harry to recover one of the old man's memories of Tom Riddle, the boy who would become Lord Voldemort.
Harry finds an old textbook with notes written by the 'Half-Blood Prince'. These notes seem to help Harry do better than ever in Potions class. But who was the prince? And should Harry be following his advice?
As well as all the evil-bashing and teacher-coaxing, not to mention starting courses for their Newts (Nastily Exhausting Wizarding Tests), Harry and his pals must contend with teenage life - and hormones. Harry realises his feelings for Ron's sister Ginny are more than platonic. Also, Ron gets his first kiss from the giggly Lavender Brown and they start going out, oblivious to Hermione's feelings for him.
